Go green this valentines day
Since we are all staying in for Valentine’s Day this year, here are some tips that will help you have a green and environmentally friendly day.
1.Buy organic food and drink and choose a restaurant who use eco-friendly takeaway packaging
It is great to buy locally grown and organic food. This will decrease the risk of pollution and will the restricted use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This will in turn improve aspects like the quality of the air around us, slowed climate change and much more. Choosing takeaway services that do eco-friendly packaging is a must as it ensures you reduce your Carbon footprint!
2.Use recyclable gift wrap, card for gifts and packages that you send out
Using materials that can easily be recycled is a must. Giving presents and sending presents to the one’s you love the most is wonderful and using reusable or recyclable material really gives love to the planet too. Perhaps you could send an e-card instead of a real card. You could even get creative and make some homemade gifts or pass something special down from your family history!
3.Fair-trade food such as chocolate
It is always a great idea to buy fair- trade food, beverages, and flowers too. This ensures that producers are paid a fair amount for their work and are able to buy food, gives them access to healthcare and education, and also there is then more money to invest in more crops that they can grow.
4.Long-lasting flowers
Instead of buying flowers that only last in the vase for a couple of weeks, try buying potted flowers and plants that will bloom and look beautiful in the Spring!
Also, be sure to recycle your flowers and not throw them away!
