World Nature Conservation Day
Celebrated annually on the 28th of July annually, World Nature Conservation Day gives recognition to the importance of maintaining a healthy environment, and helping to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our natural resources.
But these resources are rapidly running out. The world’s ever- growing population and our careless attitudes towards the use of these scarce natural resources have led to demand is increasingly outpacing supply.
If Earth’s history is compressed into one-year, the modern human has existed for 37 minutes and used up a third of Earth’s natural resources in the last 0.2 seconds. So far in 2020 alone, we have extracted approximately 50 billion tons of resources from the Earth.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations predict that by 2025, 1.8 billion people will have no water to drink. In 2011, it was estimated that we only have enough coal to meet global demands for 188 years. If our current demand continues, oil will only be enough to supply the world demands for the next 46.2 years, and there is an estimated 27 years left of seafood.

Here are some examples of ways to help conserve natural resources:
- Do not unnecessarily use water. Turn the tap off when not using it, do you really need a bath and not a shower ? Harvest rainwater to reduce your tap water usage.
- Use electric vehicles instead of conventional vehicles- Even better opt for walking or cycling when possible!
- Reduce your meat and seafood comsumption.
- Switch to an energy supplier that supports alternative sources of energy.
- Recycle - Never place glass, metal, or paper products in your general waste, as they are all easily reused to create new products. Don’t use single use plastic bags.
- Use Ecosia instead of Google search.
- Find campaigns on www.change.org to help change government environmental policies.
- Join us! By joining us, you are helping to plant trees and therefore helping to conserve the Earth’s natural resources. Find out more here...
